FEB 15, SAT: HISTORIAN JEREMIAH JENNE AT PRINCE GONG'S MANSION

HOLD THE DATE!

On Saturday Feb. 15 Beijing historian Jeremiah Jenne will lead us on a journey through the Manchu world as we walk through Prince Gong's mansion.  Details will be posted closer to the date.

Then on February 27th, at 7.30 pm, to mark the year of the 250th anniversary of Beethoven's birth, please join the RASBJ for a talk about classical music in China with Prof. Jindong Cai and his wife Sheila Melvin. Together they coauthored the book Beethoven in China: How the Great Composer Became an Icon in the People’s Republic (Penguin, in 2015). We will screen parts of their new documentary, yet to be broadcast, called “Beethoven in Beijing”.

Meanwhile, Happy Year of the Mouse to all!  While you may think the mouse is a less-than-auspicious icon of the Chinese zodiac (and sounds even less appealling if you call it a rat), nonetheless the tiny beast heralds a brand new 12-year zodiac cycle. So here's to brand new beginnings!  News of RASBJ's new menu of events in the Year of the Mouse will appear on this site and on Wechat.
