MORE ABOUT THE EVENT:

Thirty years after first stepping foot on the Great Wall, William Lindesay keeps finding new perspectives on this fabled monument. In “Wider Approaches to the Great Wall” Lindesay unveils discoveries from his recent expeditions to Mongolia, where politics and society helped shape the Wall's structures and uses. Much of the Wall was built for protection against “barbarian” tribes, such as the Mongols. But how much do we know about life on the other side? Lindesay brings this history alive using drone-recorded visuals, real objects, and tales of colorful personalities. His talk includes QA with the audience.
William Lindesay, OBE, is an honorary senior research fellow at Liverpool University. He first came to China to explore the Wall in 1986, and has lived here permanently since 1990. He’s authored five books on the Wall; the most recent is “The Great Wall in 50 Objects.”
