ABOUT THE DYNASTY DEBATE
Come to  join a debate on the merits of the Ming and Qing dynasties, led by four learned and lively historians— for the Ming: Ian Johnson and Francesco Sisci; for the Qing: Jeremiah Jenne and Michael Aldrich. See their bios below.
The debaters will speak for 10 minutes each, alternately, leaving 40 minutes for QA and audience participation.
The audience will vote before the debate, and after.

DEBATOR BIOS:
Michael Aldrich is a retired lawyer who formerly practised law in Greater China and Mongolia with several international law firms.  He is the author of The Search for a Vanishing Beijing as well as other books and articles about the history and culture of Beijing, Chinese Muslims, Mongolia, and Tibet.  He has lived in East and Central Asia for three decades and currently resides in Taiwan.
Jeremiah Jenne is a writer and educator based in Beijing. He has taught Late Imperial and Modern Chinese history for 13 years and is the founder and proprietor of Beijing by Foot, which organizes educational programs and heritage walks exploring Beijing’s past and present.
Ian Johnson is a Beijing-based writer, who won the Pulitzer Prize for his coverage of China. His latest book is The Souls of China: The Return of Religion After Mao.
Francesco Sisci is a writer, based in China for some three decades, ex Italian diplomat, ex journalist, following China Vatican affairs for 20 years, currently senior researcher at Renmin University.
