MORE ABOUT THE EVENT:

William Lindesay’s odyssey at the Great Wall began in 1986 and led to a traverse of 2470 kms on foot along its full west-east length in 1987. Since then his Great Wall journeys have multiplied and diversified during 30 years’ residency in China.

Mr Lindesay’s latest project, in keeping with his tradition of notching up firsts, illustrates his family’s innate connection to the monument. To mark his 30th anniversary in China, the Lindesay family set off to celebrate with a challenge, to travel for an entire summer and use their photographic and film-making skills to produce a full-length aerial view of the Great Wall, from east to west, from south to north.

Their archive of stunning drone footage went higher and wider than expected, being recently screened on the UK’s BBC4 in February 2019 as ‘A Slow Odyssey, The Great Wall of China, on China’s CCTV10 in 2018 as ‘Flying the Great Wall’, and on numerous other channels and airline entertainment systems worldwide.

On this special occasion, William Lindesay OBE and his wife Wu Qi, will be joined by their sons, Depictograph film-makers James (25) and Thomas (19), to present their ‘director’s edit’ of the film: ‘The Great Wall: The Greatest Views’. The team will also share some behind the scenes stories from their extraordinary summer spent flying high above the defence turned monument, above ocean and river, mountains and desert, in China, and beyond
