“China-Vatican Reconciliation — Why Now?” an RASBJ talk by Francesco Sisci

Over the past year you’ve heard news that Vatican-Beijing ties are warming up — but do you know why?  The RASBJ invites you to a talk by veteran Vatican-watcher Francesco Sisci on why a window for reconciliation between the Holy See and Beijing has opened, and how the two sides might pursue a thaw in their long-stalled relations before it swings shut again. What do the two sides have to gain from rapprochement? How might the longstanding Jesuit connection play a role in modern times? Sisci, who has reported on China for more than two decades and was granted a recent interview by Pope Francis, will explain the complex relationship between  two of the world’s most secretive bureaucracies. The talk will be moderated by foreign correspondent Melinda Liu.
