ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Jen Lin-Liu, founder of Beijing’s Black Sesame Kitchen, embarked on an epic journey along the Silk Road to answer the question: Where do noodles come from?  As a newlywed travelling in Italy, she was struck by culinary echoes of the delicacies she ate and cooked back in China, where she’d lived for more than a decade.  She also explored how food and culture had moved along the Silk Road, the ancient trade route linking Asia to Europe. From Beijing to Rome, Jen ate her way through , manti, and tortellini, as homemakers and chefs opened their kitchens to her. The resulting book, ”On the Noodle Road” is a lively discussion of food, culture, and women.  Formerly based in Beijing, Lin-Liu is author of “Serve the People: A Stir-Fried Journey Through China” and now resides in Chengdu with her husband and daughter.
