Haunted Tour of Beijing
Do You Dare？
“On the 15th day of the 7th month in the lunar calendar, the gates of Heaven and Hell are opened and the spirits of the dead walk the Earth”.
Join the Royal Asiatic Society, Beijing as we celebrate the Hungry Ghost Festival (中元節) and tour haunted and spooky sites of Beijing. We will begin our tour at Xuanwumen (The Gate of Death) and proceed through haunted hutongs and other supernatural sites. We will visit the blood soaked area around Caishikou Execution Grounds and be told the history and tales of Chinese Ghosts as well as practices for placating the spirits that walk the earth this evening. We will finish our tour with dinner at a haunted Chinese Opera Guildhall that was built over a cemetery.
Each participant will be given “Hell money” for the benefit of the wandering spirits as well as scrolls to protect everyone from possible Jiangshi (Chinese Zombies). This tour is not suitable for children; prepare to be scared. RASBJ is not responsible if “something” follows you home afterwards
Date: August 15, 2019
Time: 6:30 – 10:00pm
Price: ¥200 for members, ¥240 non-members. (price includes dinner)
Place: Xuanwumen (in front of Xuanwumen Catholic Church). We will gather at 6:15 and depart at 6:30 sharp.
Due to safety concerns in regards to possible attacks by supernatural forces, we will limit the number of participants to 18

HOW TO PAY: please befriend RASBJ treasurer John Olbrich on wechat at johnobeijing, mention “RASBJ Ghost Tour” and when you pay please list names of attendees being paid for. RASBJ members will receive priority if they RSVP before Aug. 1. If payment is received after all slots are filled, it’ll be refunded; otherwise payment is non-refundable
The tour will be led by James Nobles, founder of the Beijing Horror Film Society, haunt blogger and resident supernaturalist. Note: some locations are subject to change due to security issues.
