Mappa Mundi and Civilization: How We Live Today  

The Royal Asiatic Society Beijing is pleased to announce a walking tour of two large scale exhibitions at UCCA 798, followed by an afternoon visit to some galleries in 798.

After showing for over three months , May 5th will be the last day for Qiu Zhijie’s epic ‘Mapping the World’ several installations including over 2 dozen large scale Ink on Paper maps, free standing objects Isms at the End of the World (2016), different videos and interactive programmes including the AI Map generator where the artist vocabulary and the AI database work together to teach the software creativity and humour. Exploring mind maps , processes for producing memory and emotional states linked to memory. Using a wry sense of humour and poetic sensibility he presents individual and collective memories. Full of delightful surprises.

The second exhibition is a monumental photography exhibition (over 250 artworks) looking at development of human life on a global scale . This vast exhibition takes a look at key aspects of organized life in the 21stcenturysuch as ‘Hive ‘ explore intricate urban networks, “Along together” considers maintenance of social relationships , ‘Persuasion’ explore strategies we use to convince ourselves and others , other themes include ‘Control’ ‘Rupture’ ‘Escape’ . This huge spectrum of human activity might be a little overwhelming , they are complex portraits of an era giving us a sense of the way we live now.

After the second exhibition we will break for lunch, this is not included but we will arrange a booking at a suitable restaurant.
After lunch we will visit a couple of other well known galleries in 798. Your tour guide will be artist Niamh Cunningham
