Please join us for a film that explores one of the world’s most desolate and beautiful locations. Running across the Great Eastern Steppe, and labelled on Mongolian maps as “The Wall of Genghis Khan,” are structures totaling more than 1500 km in length. At the border with China, it crosses under a barbed-wire fence — and becomes “The Great Wall” on Chinese maps.  To explore these monuments and possible links to the conqueror Genghis Khan, William Lindesay — the world’s leading researcher on what he calls “the Great Wall Outside China” — embarked on a 60-day journey to see the structures and film them from the air using camera drones.  In the summer of 2016, William, his wife, and two sons explored the Wall of Genghis Khan, a journey filmed entirely by sons James and Thomas, who edited the footage into a documentary feature that has been featured on BBC News and Discovery Channel. After the showing the flmmakers will answer questions from the audience.

He’s authored five books on the Great Wall and created / curated two national exhibitions in Beijing — one at the Capital Museum and a second at the Imperial Academy — as well as seven provincial exhibitions.

William’s sons James, 22, and Thomas,16 – the “Drone Boys” — have grown up sharing their father’s passion and spending weekends at the Great Wall in their family’s nearby farmhouse. Each has made two journeys along the full length of the Ming Great Wall as well as three ‘Genghis Khan Wall” expeditions.
