WHAT: “Urban Exploration in China” by Brendan Connal, an RASBJ Zoom talk with QA
WHEN: Nov. 11, 2020 Wed. from 20:00-21:00 PM Beijing Standard Time

MORE ABOUT THE EVENT: After the breakneck speed of the  1990s and early 2000s, Chinese development has slowed down considerably, leaving abandoned buildings and projects by the wayside. From buildings which were used for decades and now lay derelict, to China’s characteristic mega projects which just fizzled out leaving empty hubs, urban explorers clamber to get inside, but what motivates them to go to these often dark and dangerous places? This presentation will examine the relationship between urban explorers and the places they haunt, giving the audience a first step in understanding the weird and wonderful world of urbex.

MORE ABOUT THE SPEAKER: Brendan Connal or Brin, aka Burbex is one of Beijing’s most well-known urban explorers. Having lived in China for almost 17 years, his combination of squeezing through tight spaces, great sense of direction and thorough background knowledge of Chinese culture has brought attention from newspapers and television shows throughout Europe, and has pushed his YouTube channel into the limelight.  Brin is an avid urban adventurer and loves to share his weird tales.
